영어는 암기과목이 아니다.

흔히들 영어 단어는 다의어라고 해서 각기 다른 여러 가지 뜻을 가지고 있다고 생각하고 모두 외우려고 하지만 사실은 한 가지의 의미가 여러 가지 상황에서 다르게 이해되는 것뿐입니다.

머리가 나쁘거나 나이가 많은 것은 영어를 배우는데 문제가 되지 않는다.

공부를 잘하건 못하건 나이가 많건 어리건 간에 모국어를 구사하는 데 있어서는 별 차이가 없지 않나요? 즉 언어를 익히는 데 있어서 두뇌나 연령 따위는 상관이 없습니다.

문법이나 구문은 몰라도 상관없다.

영어 문장은 생각나는 대로 내뱉은 단어의 연결일 뿐입니다.

영어는 언어다.

모든 언어는 복잡한 것 같아도 결국 생각나는 순서대로 단어를 내뱉은 것에 불과합니다. 이것이 언어의 원리이며, 영어의 원리입니다. 그 이상도 이하도 없습니다.

번역가를 지망하며 번역시험을 준비하던 중 ‘영어의 원리’를 접하게 되면서 영어의 기초를 탄탄하게 다질 수 있었고, 이런 지식과 경험을 많은 이들과 공유하고 싶어졌다. 하지만 시중에 나와 있는 영어교재만으로는 만족할 길이 없어 답답하던 차에 직접 책을 집필하기로 결정했다.

원래의 집필 의도는 ‘한 가지의 참의미’만으로 영어 단어를 익힐 수 있도록 하기 위함이었으나, ‘영어의 원리’ 또한 가미해넣었다. 결국 두 권의 내용을 한 권으로 담아낸 것이다. 그러니 이 책을 반복적으로 학습하면 누구든지 영어의 참맛을 느낄 수 있으며, 어렵지 않은 원서 정도는 빛의 속도로 읽어 나갈 수 있게 될 것이다.
